Bruno Spengler, Tom Blomqvist and Markus Palttala had to retire their ROWE Racing BMW M6 GT3 from this weekend’s Blancpain Endurance Series at Le Castellet circuit (third round of the season).

In qualifying for the 6-hour event, Bruno drove in qualifying 3 and took 24th position in a 57-car field, only 3/10ths of a second off the top 10.

Bruno got off to a good start, making up positions, patiently picking off the opposition one at a time. He moved up from 24th to 16th. He drove for just under the regulation 65 minutes, not pitting during the first safety car period before handing over to Blomqvist. After a second safety car period, the car was up to third place. Bad luck struck first for Tom Blomqvist when he got a puncture. The BMW M6 lost three laps and then started its progression again. Unfortunately, in his second stint, it was then Spengler’s turn to pick up a puncture and this time the damage to the car was such that it had to be retired.

The car was retired on lap 111.

“Paul Ricard was not the best circuit for our BMW M6. We had a promising start where we made up places. But the two punctures cost us a lot and there was no way for us to get back on track. However, this was a rehearsal for the Spa 24 Hours at the end of July and we managed to collect a lot of data”.
