Last Sunday, for the very first time, Bruno Spengler took the wheel of a Formula E single seater during the Rookie tests in Marrakesh.
At the behest of BMW Motorsports, the Canadian driver tested one of the two MS&AD Andretti single seaters the day after the Marrakesh E-Prix on the Moulay El Hassan circuit, before the start of the new DTM season with his “Black Beast”.

The 2012 DTM champion, who had not driven a single seater for 13 years, easily adapted to this unprecedented experience.

“For sure I found this day in Marrakesh to be full of positives. It had been a long time since I’d driven a single seater, the last time was in 2004. There were many things for me to discover or re-discover. Actually, I got used to the car very quickly, although it was totally different from what I am used to nowadays. There were a lot of things for me to absorb, the driving style, the treaded tires, the energy harvesting in the braking zones. It was all very interesting and I really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, we were a bit unlucky at the end, as we came across some technical problems that prevented us from taking part in a qualifying session simulation at 200kw. It is a shame but we managed to make good progress with the team and we found some interesting angles on how to work with the car in the future.”

Bruno will now focus on the DTM season starting in May at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany.
